Abstract
The paper proposes a dynamic account of Functional Discourse Grammar. While the overall organization of the static model is strictly hierarchical, the interaction between its constituent components in the generation of linguistic expressions is shown to be more intricate. We propose to supplement the hierarchical architecture of the model with two procedural rules (top-down and depth-first), which in conjunction with a rigid distinction between restriction and predication in underlying clause structures account for these intricacies.
