Abstract
Infection associated with total hip arthroplasty remains a devastating complication. Preventative measures to minimize infection cannot be overemphasized. The diagnosis may, on occasion, be difficult in cases of a low virulence infection, so a high index of suspicion is helpful. More often, infection is obvious and in most cases a staged approach is the preferred treatment strategy.
