Abstract
Osteoporosis is a prevalent and treatable disease encountered by the spine surgeon on a regular basis. The following review summarizes the pathogenesis, physiological and biomechanical effects, diagnosis, and medical treatment options for osteoporosis with emphasis on how this disease pertains to the spine.
