Abstract
This is the first of two articles designed to facilitate the approach to cutting up ophthalmic pathology specimens. This article deals with the enucleation and orbital exenteration specimen. Ophthalmologists would have made a detailed examination of the eye in vivo with a slit-lamp microscope and imaging modalities. As such, they will expect high-quality pathology feedback to complete the clinicopathological loop. Both tumour and non-tumour pathology cases are discussed. This protocol should not be used for post-mortem enucleations in the setting of suspected non-accidental injury. The text does assume some basic knowledge of clinical ophthalmology terminology.
