Reason: The Editors of Surgery have been informed that this article contains data plagiarized from a previous publication (“Cancer and Deprivation”, West Midlands Cancer Intelligence Unit, Birmingham, UK, 2002). In addition, certain of the named authors have indicated that they had no knowledge of this article and did not approve its submission. Therefore, we have no choice other than to retract the article.
