Abstract
The paper reviews recent progress in the investigations of nearshore litho- and morphodynamics at the Institute of Hydroengineering of the Polish Acad. of Sci. (IBW-PAN). It features both advanced physical modelling and data-driven analyses of nearshore processes, aimed at better understanding of mechanisms driving the evolution of a wave-dominated coastal zone with multiple, longshore sandbars. It reveals the synergy both methodologies jointly possess to achieve such a goal.
