Abstract
We study the interrelation between the algebraic properties and the dynamical behavior of elementary cellular automata and other deterministic quadratic dynamical systems. The examples presented indicate that complex behavior, often observed in these systems, can be connected to the nonassociativity of algebraic structures on which systems evolve.
