Abstract
Necessary and sufficient conditions for the convergence of Picard iteration to a fixed point for a continuous mapping in metric spaces are established. As application, we prove the convergence theorem of Ishikawa iteration to a fixed point for a nonexpansive mapping in Banach spaces.
