Abstract
⺠Explores the sociocultural context of interactions between unauthorized Mexican migrants and their health care providers in the US. ⺠Analyses the social forces that lead well-meaning clinicians to blame patients for their suffering. ⺠Examines the lenses of ethnic biological difference and individual behavior utilized by clinicians to understand disease. ⺠Reorients the focus of cultural competency toward the structural and cultural barriers found within biomedicine itself.
