Abstract
Results obtained during the development of new analytical tools suitable for the identification, and where possible quantitation of a plasticiser in a polymer matrix are reported. Our experimental efforts have been mainly focused on spectroscopic techniques, such as optical and vibrational spectroscopy (IR attenuated total reflectance and photoacoustic techniques). IR bands have been assigned to matrix and additive; the analytical method has been tested for quantitative purposes and a particular photoacoustic experimental set up useful for the study of additive distribution in the polymer matrix is described.
