Abstract
We develop a theory of undulations of the interface between two immiscible electrolyte solutions, caused by a minute concentration of ions with low free energy of transfer that are able to trespass the interface under a small potential bias. We derive simple expressions for the correlation function of the interfacial undulations and their mean square height as a function of concentration of these easily transferable ions and the ionic current across the interface. Possible experiments for verifying these predictions are discussed, as well as what we could learn from them for a more detailed understanding of the properties of ITIES.
