Abstract
Using Lie algebraic methods, we evaluate exactly the temporal evolution of the transition probabilities and the energy for a two-level system responding to a short laser pulse with and without frequency chirp. The method relies in the algebraic properties of the Hamiltonian and its applicability does not depend on the especific form of the temporal dependence of the field.
