Abstract
The use of hyperbolic secant (HS) pulses to enhance the intensity of the central transition in MQMAS experiments for spin 3/2 quadrupolar nuclei is investigated by examining 87Rb NMR spectra of a powder sample of RbNO3. The application of HS pulses prior to the triple-quantum (3Q) excitation provides sensitivity enhancements in MQMAS spectra that are superior to those previously reported. For the conversion of 3Q to single-quantum (1Q) observables, the HS pulses have an efficiency similar to that reported for double frequency sweeps (DFS) but greater than that of the fast amplitude modulation (FAM) technique.
