Abstract
1H NMR spectra in binary mixtures of water and ethylene glycol monomethyl ether (2-methoxyethanol, C3H7O2; C1E1), diethylene glycol monomethyl ether (2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethanol, C5H12O3; C1E2), triethylene glycol monomethyl ether [2-{2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethoxy}ethanol, C7H16O4; C1E3), ethylene glycol dimethyl ether (1,2-dimethoxyethane, C4H10O2; C1E1C1), diethylene glycol dimethyl ether (bis(2-methoxyethyl)ether, C6H14O3; C1E2C1), triethylene glycol dimethyl ether (1,2-bis(2-methoxyethoxy)ethane, C8H18O4; C1E3C1), and tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether (2,5,8,11,14-pentaoxapentadecane, C10H22O5; C1E4C1) are recorded over the whole composition range at 298.15 K under atmospheric pressure. The experimental data have been used to calculate the deviations in chemical shift from the additive properties, viz. Δδ as a function of mole fractions, and values obtained are fitted to the Redlich-Kister polynomial equation to obtain the binary coefficients and the standard errors. An attempt has also been made to correlate the values of the spectral parameter Δδ calculated from 1H NMR data with various physicochemical properties.
