Abstract
A relatively narrow diffuse band at about 212.5 nm was observed in both emission and absorption spectra of the cadmium vapour. The band was identified as a transition involving the 1u Rydberg state correlated with the asymptote 63S1 + 51S0 and the 0g+ ground state of Cd2. Analysis yielded some data concerning the previously unknown outer potential energy well of the upper state and the oscillator strength f (R).
