Abstract
The pseudo-(1Â 0Â 0) reconstruction of Cu(1Â 1Â 1) by chemisorbed N has been investigated by medium energy ion scattering (MEIS) using 100Â keV H+ incident ions. Through detailed analysis of scattered ion blocking curves, absolute yields and scattered ion energy spectra, it is established that the reconstruction involves only the outermost Cu layer, and not two or more layers as has been suggested previously.
