Abstract
Well-ordered arrays of magnetic nanodots have been proposed as a new generation of ultra-high density recording media in the range 100Â Gbits/in2 to 1Â Tbits/in2, typically. To prepare such systems, we present an approach based on the deposition of magnetic nanoclusters preformed in the gas phase on functionalized surfaces. In this paper, we focus on the synthesis and characterization of 2D-organized arrays of Co50Pt50 nanocluster assemblies on HOPG surfaces patterned by Focused Ion Beam technique (FIB). After annealing treatment, the mixed CoPt nanoparticles exhibit the L10-type ordered structure which is well known for its characteristic high magnetic-anisotropy leading to a rather high blocking temperature required for applications.
