Abstract
Direct STM observations of mono-chlorinated Si(1Â 1Â 1)-(7Â ÃÂ 7) surfaces under illumination of an ultra-violet light (290Â nm) show that jumps of chlorine atoms are enhanced in addition to the known effect of tunneling current injection. Unlike the current injection effect, however, there is no predominant direction of enhanced jumps, and most of the jumps repeat at same places. The relevance to the current injection effect is discussed.
