Abstract
⺠I show that a nation's labor market institutions affect its trade patterns. ⺠Workers acquire more relationship-specific skills in a protective labor market. ⺠Countries with protective labor laws specialize in specific skill-intensive sectors. ⺠The estimated wage return to firm tenure is used to proxy for a sector's firm-specific skill intensity.
