Abstract
⺠We examine the effect of distance on exporting and on domestic shipping. ⺠We find that large plants are more likely to export and to ship farther domestically. ⺠Border effects can only partly explain this plant-size/export relationship. ⺠More than half of the relationship results from the effect of distance itself.
