Abstract
A set of design formulae to estimate the ultimate strength of a continuous stiffened panel subjected to combined transverse thrust and lateral pressure is presented, extending the basic idea proposed for a continuous plate in Part-1 study. The effect of plate/stiffener interaction on the elastic buckling strength of local plate panel is introduced in the formulation as well as the effect of continuity of plating. The overall collapse of stiffeners under lateral pressure is included in the possible failure modes. It has been proven from a comparison with FEA results that the proposed formulae give a good prediction of the ultimate strength of a continuous stiffened panel.
