Abstract
⺠We analyze the changes of enterprise unions' stances to downsizing after 1997. ⺠Strong unions encourage the firms to maintain employment until incurring losses. ⺠After 1997, firms with strong unions became to downsize before suffering losses. ⺠The changes in unions' stances affected firms' employment adjustment behaviors.
