Abstract
Mathematical models that are well suited to engineering application have been developed to predict the removal of trace organics from water by integrated continuous flow PAC adsorption/submerged membrane filtration processes. These models are based on the single solute homogeneous surface diffusion model (HSDM) and mass balance equations for both continuous and initial (batch) PAC dosing modes. Both film and surface limitation to adsorption kinetics have been considered in these models. The developed models have been verified through continuous flow PAC adsorption/membrane filtration experiments using estrone as the model organic compound. The results indicated that the developed models provide reasonable representations of the trace estrone removal by the processes examined.
