Abstract
Radiative transfer calculations for the hemispherical transmittance through a packed bed of opaque spheres are performed based on a correlated radiative property model previously proposed by one of the authors and obtained results are favorably compared with available results of direct Monte Carlo simulations. It is also shown that the scaling factor Sr to the extinction coefficient of packed spheres empirically determined by Singh and Kaviany closely resembles the scaled extinction enhancement factor (2γ2â1) theoretically derived by Kamiuto, except in a low porosity region.
