Abstract
The non-fundamental apparent power consists of three components, respectively, termed the current distortion power, the voltage distortion power, and the total harmonic power. Also, an increase in current total harmonic distortion causes an increase in this power. An optimization criterion is presented which allows proper calculation of optimum fixed LC combination in a power factor installation to minimize the normalized value of this power while keeping the power factor and the voltage total harmonic distortion within a specified range. The contribution of the developed method is demonstrated in examples taken from previous publications.
