Abstract
A new technique of reinforcing soil by used tires is proposed. It consists in the use of tire's portions joined by a metallic bar; this eliminates the compaction problems, homogenises the medium, and allows the use of old tires, even partially damaged. A multiphase model is here proposed taking into account the extension, the flexural and the possible warping of the reinforcement. Using the principle of the virtual work, the equilibrium equations and the boundary conditions are derived. The behaviour laws are proposed. Using the beam's warping theory, and by considering a linear elastic behaviour. The behaviour law's parameters associated to the reinforcement are identified. Analytical simple examples are here analysed in the case of no slipping between soil and inclusion showing the usefulness of the multiphase approach and the warping effects.
