Abstract
Thermal striping is a complex phenomenon involving turbulent fluid flows, which can lead to fatigue crack initiation. CEA and JNC have developed evaluation procedures of thermal striping to establish design-by-analysis methodologies for this phenomenon. In order to compare the ideas and to validate these methods, two benchmark problems were planned under the framework of CEA/JNC cooperation in fast reactor technologies. One of the benchmarks proposed by CEA consists of temperature and fatigue evaluation of tubes and plates: the tests were performed with the FAENA facility. The other one from JNC is on plate tests performed with the TIFFSS facility. This paper describes the results of inter comparison of temperature and fatigue evaluation methods through application to both FAENA and TIFFSS sodium experiments.
