Abstract
The growth of voids in incipient spalling is modeled by dislocation loop emission from the void surface. The first dislocation-based void growth mechanism, proposed by Lubarda et al. [Acta Mat 2004; 52: 1397] is reviewed and extended to three dimensions. It has a generality rendering it applicable to a broad range of strain rates.
