Abstract
The paper dwells on the air-gap magnetic permeance between two toothed structures depending on their relative displacement. Obtaining accurate and convenient expressions for the air-gap magnetic permeance between two toothed structures is important for designing variable reluctance electrical machines. The authors present an improvement on a method they have been using for years, i.e. the method of substituting angle. Analytically obtained formulas are compared to those obtained through the finite elements method. The study shows that considerable simplification in calculations may be obtained by using the method of substituting angle and appropriate correction of the angle β.
