Abstract
Convergence of electrical device optimisation depends on the starting point and the method used. Well-managed optimisation must be able to employ multiple engineering optimisation methods and allow different starting points. We present such a useful interactive tool with a user-friendly graphics interface. A finite element analysis program is coupled with this flexible optimisation package, which is also suitable for teaching optimisation, treating it as a CAI tool. The required algorithms and data structures are identified and described. Through this development and testing the software, the required features for CAD/CAI in engineering optimisation software are identified.
