Abstract
The equilibrium functions of traffic flow are investigated in the light of stability with recent experimental investigations and theoretical advances. Mathematical analysis and numerical simulations demonstrate that an equilibrium function is always unreasonable in some vehicle density interval, e.g. the downstream-moving cluster and the upstream-moving wave velocity of zero at traffic jam.
