Abstract
The magnetic properties (phase diagram, magnetizations, initial susceptibility and effective paramagnetic susceptibility exponent) of transverse Ising thin films with diluted surfaces are studied with the help of the standard mean-field theory (MFA) and the effective-field theory with correlations (EFT). Novel features are obtained in the magnetic properties of the EFT, being different from those of the MFA. They depend on the thickness of the film and surface dilution. These characteristic phenomena come from the competition between the surfaces and the bulk when the ratios of the physical parameters (transverse field and exchange interaction) between the surfaces and the bulk are selected as some large values.
