Abstract
A novel and simple SOA-fiber laser which uses a slanted fiber Bragg grating written in a multimode fiber (M-FBG) for switchable multiwavelength operation is proposed. Due to multimode coupling in the slanted M-FBG, multi-peak reflection is realized. Experimental results show that the stable five-wavelength lasing operation with a wavelength separation of ∼0.54 nm can be achieved at room temperature. The configuration is simple and flexible. Only by adjusting the polarization controller, the laser can be switched between the single-, dual-, and multiwavelength lasing operations in a stable and repetition manner.
