Abstract
We present a semi-analytical method to design a dispersion-managed system in which the dispersion is compensated by means of fibre Bragg gratings. Our aim is to determine the parameters of a line that could sustain the propagation of fundamental and antisymmetric dispersion-managed solitons at the same time. To this end, we use a variational model that takes into account the losses in the fibres and the limited bandwidth of the gratings. The predictions of this model are verified by direct numerical simulations using the beam propagation method. We discuss the limitations of our model as the bandwidth of the gratings is reduced.
