Abstract
We propose a novel tunable PMD compensator which uses a linearly Chirped Hi-Bi Grating in a double-pass configuration and is free from chromatic dispersion. The compensator can be tuned to operate over a range of wavelengths and can yield DGD values over a large range. Measured eye-diagrams for a 10 Gb/s system show that this configuration can greatly reduce the chromatic dispersion induced by chirped grating in a PMD compensator.
