Abstract
It is demonstrated experimentally that spatial hole burning effect is responsible for the multi-longitudinal mode emission from a high pressure pulsed CO2 laser. Elimination of this effect by making use of a travelling wave cavity results in oscillation on a single longitudinal mode.
