Abstract
The chemical stresses developed in a square sandwich composite during diffusion have been investigated. The specimen was made of a square layer A sandwiched between two outer square layers B with the diffusivity of A much greater than that of B. Two different diffusion processes, one with constant surface source and the other with instantaneous surface source, were considered. The concentration distributions were solved analytically, and the chemical stresses were determined by a numerical method. The results were discussed and compared with those obtained previously for the case of a sandwich slab specimen.
