Abstract
This paper begins with introduction and discussion of two sorts of traditional thermal-shock-resistance (TSR) theories and formulae, followed by establishment of a new TSR model based on the traditional theories. Then, ZrO2-Al2O3 composite ceramics with different Al2O3 loadings were prepared and their TSRs were tested to validate the proposed model. The results showed that the new model could explain the TSR behavior of the ceramic composites better, and the forecasted results of the critical TSR temperature were close to the test results. Therefore, the model can be used for qualitative even quantitative analysis of the TSR of ceramics.
