Abstract
The temperature induced changes in electronic structure, for submonolayer Gd structures on W(1Â 1Â 2), are evident in angle-resolved photoemission through an order/disorder phase transition. This structural order/disorder transition resembles a two-dimensional melting transition and is reversible. The indirect interaction through substrate is discussed as possible interaction mechanism stabilizing the ordered phase(s) of the adsorbed gadolinium layers.
