Abstract
The Mg-Pr system was critically assessed by means of the Calculate of Phase Diagram (CALPHAD) technique. The solution phases (liquid, body-centered cubic, double hexagonal close-packed and hexagonal close-packed) were modeled with the Redlich-Kister equation. The intermetallic compounds, Mg12Pr and Mg2Pr, were treated as stoichiometric compounds. The compounds Mg41Pr5, Mg3Pr and MgPr, which have a homogeneity range, were treated as the formulae (Mg, Pr)41(Mg, Pr)5, Mg(Mg, Pr)3 and (Mg, Pr)(Mg, Pr) by a two-sublattice model with Mg and Pr or Mg on the first sublattice, and Mg and Pr on the second one, respectively. A set of self-consistent thermodynamic parameters of the Mg-Pr system was obtained.
