Abstract
The isothermal section at 800 °C of the Dy-Fe-Sn ternary system has been systematically investigated by means of powder X-ray diffraction. At this temperature, the phase diagram is characterized by the formation of only two solid solution-based compounds, DyxFe6Sn6 (0.32 < x â¤Â 1) and DyFexSn2 (0 < x â¤Â 0.2). The end member of the former solid solution, DyFe6Sn6 crystallizes with the YFe6Sn6-type structure. DyxFe6Sn6 with x approximately 0.32 and 0.5 were found to be defect isotypes of the partially-ordered SmMn6Sn6 type of structure as the defect Yb0.6Fe6Sn6 and UxFe6Sn6 intermetallics. DyFexSn2 (x = 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2) crystallize in the CeNiSi2-type structure.
