Abstract
A novel lanthanum molybdenyl iodate, La(MoO2)(OH)(IO3)4, has been prepared by hydrothermal reactions at 170 °C. The X-ray single-crystal structural analysis showed that it crystallizes in the polar and chiral space group P21 with a = 7.0513(7) Å, b = 14.225(1) Å, c = 7.1206(8) Å, β = 115.653(8)°, Z = 2, R1/wR2=0.0269/0.0608 for 2828 observed reflections, and 191 parameters. La(MoO2)(OH)(IO3)4 contains a complex three-dimensional network formed by eight co-ordinated La3+ cations, strongly distorted octahedral Mo(VI) centers, and bridging iodate anions. Infrared spectra further confirmed the presence of MoO66− and IO3− groups as well as MoOH interactions.
