Abstract
The 523Â K isothermal section of La-Ni-Ge ternary phase was investigated by X-ray diffraction (powder XRD), differential thermal analysis (DTA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. It is composed of 27 single-phase regions, 59 two-phase regions and 33 three-phase regions. The existence of eight ternary compounds, namely La8NiGe5 (A), La11Ni4Ge6 (B), La3NiGe2 (C), La3Ni4Ge4 (D), La2NiGe3 (E), LaNiGe2 (F), LaNi2Ge2 (G), La(Ni0.9Ge0.1)13 (H), at 523Â K was comfirmed. The maximum solid solubilities of Ge in Ni and LaNi5 are about 12 and 16Â at.%, respectively.
