Abstract
The magnetically ordered compounds U3M2M3â² where M = Al, Ga and Mâ² = Si, Ge were investigated by computing their electronic band structure and measuring the X-ray photoemission spectra (XPS). The band structure was calculated by the tight-binding linear muffin-tin orbital (TB-LMTO) method in atomic spheres approximation (ASA). The XPS was measured in vacuum (â¼5 Ã 10â10Â Torr) on freshly cleaved surfaces of the samples. The valence band spectra agree rather well with the measured ones. The satellite structure of the deep U(4f) lines was recovered and discussed.
