Internal migration represents the movement of people from one defined area to another within a country. Reasons for this type of migration are very different. One of the biggest issues concerning internal migration involves urbanization. Many internal migrants are part of a larger global trend toward population concentrations in cities. Migration has become a significant issue in the last years in the conservative Slovak republic. We analyze the internal migration in the Slovak republic. This paper is concerned with general question, what factors influence the likelihood of peoples moving. Are economic factors the main reasons for migration? People with university education migrate the most? Which region of the Slovak republic is the most interesting for migrants? We want to find the answers for these questions. This paper is focusing especially on the period 2009 - 2013. Information on internal migration within the Slovak republic is from the Statistical Office of the Slovak republic. Internal migration was analysed through selected indicators, such as education, reasons for migration, and so on. For better analyses, transparency and conclusions, we use the statistical tools, such as cluster analysis. From the obtained information we try to do conclusions. Focusing on age, education and reasons for migration we try to show the trends in internal migration typical for the Slovak inhabitants.
