Abstract
This paper attempts to analyze the economy of the Region of Western Greece by constructing a regional Social Accounting Matrix (R-SAM). First, the socio-economic profile of the area is presented. Subsequently, a regional SAM is used to portray the structural characteristics of the local economy, followed by the derivation and interpretation multipliers in terms of output, income and employment. Results indicate that the region despite its key strategic position is characterized by a low level of integration. Also, the analysis manifests that the tertiary sector has the highest potential to increase the level of regional income and employment.
