Abstract
The forward detector upgrade adds new capabilities to PHENIX. Components are an upgraded muon trigger that processes signals from detectors in the muon arms and a Nosecone Calorimeter (NCC). The muon trigger gives PHENIX the capability to trigger on muons at the highest luminosities and improves background rejection. The NCC is a W-Si sampling spectrometer with electromagnetic and hadronic components that expands forward kinematic coverage. We outline physics measurements possible and instrumentation required.
