Abstract
The methods to account for the correlation effects in theoretical studies of the atomic spectra by the multiconfiguration approach, that have been developed at the Department of the Theory of Atom in the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy, together with some results applied for highly charged ions are briefly discussed.
