Abstract
But also the new research activities in Europe encouraged and supported by the Commission of the European Union within their Framework Programmes will be outlined. The Michelangelo Network (MICANET) has been created in 1997 by 19 European partners to elaborate a general European R&D strategy for the further development of the nuclear industry with a strong focus on innovative nuclear reactor designs. The Hydrogen Network (HYNET) established in 1999 is working on the development of strategies for the introduction of a European hydrogen fuel infrastructure. Both networks are paving the way for subsequent proposals for EU supported research projects such as V/HTR, HYSAFE, INNOHYP.
