Abstract
Marlies Teichmüller focused her career on genetic coal petrology. In her investigations of the botanical components of coal and reconstructions of Carboniferous and Tertiary mires, she was greatly influenced by Eric Stach, Walther Gothan, Reinhardt Thiessen, Rolf Teichmüller, Paul Thomson, Gilbert Cady, and William Spackman, Jr. Some of these influences deal with paleobotany, palynology, and botany and these are set forth in this tribute.
